Infectious Disease Services
The Sumter County Disease Control staff conducts surveillance and investigations for Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and other diseases/conditions of public health significance. Human surveillance of diseases and conditions is required in order to meet the mission of public health: to focus attention on identifying, assessing, and controlling the presence and speed of communicable diseases. There are over 90 diseases and conditions listed as reportable. Outbreaks of any disease, any case, cluster of cases, or exposure to an infectious disease, condition, or agent found in the general community or setting (e.g. school) should also be reported.
