The Sumter County Disease Control staff conducts surveillance and investigations for Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and other diseases/conditions of public health significance. Human surveillance of diseases and conditions is required in order to meet the mission of public health: to focus attention on identifying, assessing, and controlling the presence and speed of communicable diseases. There are over 90 diseases and conditions listed as reportable.
