What is Sumter Through Your Lens?

Sumter Through Your Lens (STYL) is a community-based project that uses photography to reflect what makes Sumter County a healthy place to live, work, and play.

Community members use the camera lens to capture the strengths of the community, as well as areas of improvement. These images, along with descriptive captions, can be used to encourage positive changes in the community.

What pictures should I take?

This project hopes to capture the essence of day-to-day life in Sumter County. Try capturing photos that illustrate the following ideas:

  • What do you love about your community?
  • What makes it unique?
  • How does your community help you stay healthy?
  • Is there anything that creates a challenge to staying healthy?

Your perspective may not be the same as anyone else’s. There is no right or wrong, but there are just a few simple guidelines for the project.

Safety and Ethics Guidelines

Be safe and aware of your surroundings while taking photos. Do not do anything you wouldn’t normally do, or go anywhere you wouldn’t normally go. Have a friend join you, if possible. It’s more fun than going alone!

Be considerate while taking photos. Do not take photos of people or private property without permission. Avoid taking risky or incriminating photos. Ask yourself:  Would I want someone taking my picture while doing this?

How do I submit my photos?

Submit your photos, along with a short description of your photos, by email to AskSumter@FLhealth.gov. Please submit all photos by April 30, 2018.
