Florida Department of Health in Sumter County

The Sumter County Health Department offers family planning and related preventive health services to males and females, including teens, on a voluntary basis in a confidential manner.  

Family Planning is a program that provides quality, low cost, and easily accessible reproductive health care.  Services include education, counseling, medical services, referrals, and follow up visits as needed. Services provided:

  • Physical Exams and Labs
  • Counseling and Referrals
  • STD Counseling, testing and treatment
  • Sterilization Referral for Tubal Ligation and Vasectomy
  • Health Education and Promotion
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • Emergency Contraception Pill
  • Condoms at no charge

Family Planning Medicaid Wavier is accepted for the below services. For eligibility criteria and to apply visit Program Descriptions A | MyACCESS (

  • annual physical exams including a pap smear
  • birth control supplies
  • pregnancy testing if indicated
  • limited treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • related medicines and lab tests


PEPW – Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women (PEPW) –Sumter County Health Department processes applications for temporary Medicaid eligibility for prenatal medical care.  Eligibility is based on the family unit’s gross income.
